Clubhouse (Locust Street) Photos – 1960s

Can anyone help us date these photos?

This Clubhouse served the club for many years until it was purchased from the club via eminent domain for the Loop 306 construction. The land this building sat on is now underneath the Loop.

You might notice in the first phot that the call sign on the clubhouse is “K5AXA” which was the club call sign until Carl Brinegar passed away in the 1960s, and the club adopted Carl’s call sign, W5QX. Carl was a founding member of the club in 1922, as a young man of 18 or 19 years old. Note in the last picture, that by the time this clubhouse was closed, the call sign out front said “W5QX”

Notice the sign near the telephone pole… that sign made it over to the new (current) clubhouse at Stewart Lane near the airport.
